Why don't the doctors and nurses go on a strike?

I have heard absolute horror stories from my partner who is a nurse. Alone during a night shift at a psychiatric hospital. Bosses refusing to accept a timecard if there was no break, which they cannot take because there are often people who need to be monitored 24/7. Another friend who is a doctor is working 18 hour shifts ALONG with their normal shifts in the middle of the week, every other week?? And all of that for pay that's absolute shit. BVG workers are going on a strike every other week,
