What do you find special about castles?

I visited the New Palace in Bayreuth yesterday and found it really beautiful. The interiors especially surprised me a lot, even though photography was not allowed inside. Many rooms are designed in the Rococo style, with very delicate floral patterns on the walls and ceilings and an incredible amount of small details. There is also a very beautiful grotto, and overall everything feels calm, elegant and very thoughtfully designed. These playful decorations and the overall atmosphere are what

Why do I never find these in Germany??

This is my fave sort of Haribo, has always been (bought this package during my vacation in Bosnia recently). For some reason, I was never able to find it anywhere in Germany. Not in any regular store, or even in a Haribo store (I visited the official store one time in Hamburg but no success). The package says they're made in Austria. Again, why can't I find these in Germany?? 😭

Forced to leave the country due to being disabled

This all happened last year, but it didn't feel right to post at the time because I still wasn't sure if I had made the right choice. I don't use reddit but my friend told me I should post this here. About a year after I had gotten my masters degree, and a job 6 months later, a work accident a few months into the job had left me permanently deaf, it was devastating for several reasons, but honestly I got accustomed to my new reality pretty quick sicne I didn't really speak to others outside of

Came across some very Bavarian men

At the moment my hometown has Dult - a kind of summer version of the Oktoberfest. Those men were preparing to join a parade for it. They all hid their beers when I asked for a foto haha

Fielmann glasses for 19 EUR: Legit?

I have been looking to by glasses and clicked on the first link after a Google search. Seems like Fielmann is a known company but their basic frame + powered glasses are available for as low as 19 EUR. Is it legit or is there any downside I’m not seeing? I have always heard glasses in Germany costs 100s of euros so a little shocked to find something for so low.

How much debt does the average German have?

Hey everyone! I recently watched a YouTube video about how much debt Americans have, and I was honestly shocked. People casually talking about having $50k, $200k, even $900k in debt : car loans, student loans, mortgages, credit cards, all stacked on top of each other. The numbers were insane. It made me really curious: how much debt does the average German typically have? And what kind of debts? It feels like debt culture over there is on a completely different level.

I visited Heidelberg in Germany 🇩🇪

A charming town to visit if you get the chance. It can be a bit touristy, especially in the center, but if you’re feeling adventurous, you can escape the crowds and explore nearby villages like Ladenburg (just 15 minutes away) or Schriesheim if you’re up for a bit of forest hiking. You’ll find castles, medieval vibes, and ruins along the way. A great destination for a 2–3 day trip.

Is racism against Chinese people/Asians really that bad in Germany or was my experience unique?

Hello everyone, I am a Chinese-American, essentially raised in the US my whole life. I recently traveled to Berlin, Frankfurt, and Hamburg (10 days total). For this trip, I traveled with a few of my friends from Taiwan and Korea who were also raised in the US. There have been a few times, more than I can count on my 10 fingers. There have been times when people have pulled their eyes back at us in marketplaces and restaurants, and times when people have come up to us on the street saying "Ching

German painting from the late 19th century

Hi, I'm from Russia and I recently purchased a large painting, 90 cm by 60 cm, probably from the late 19th century. There's an inscription in German behind the painting, but it's hard for me to decipher it, and my camera won't pick up the text so I can translate it. Could anyone translate what's written there? Thanks

Enjoy the sun, Folks!

Hi everyone! I work as a Lieferando bike rider. I am sitting in a small park near a house during my short break and someone gave me this. They said it is cold, enjoy. I'm guessing they may have seen me from their window. I'm literally overwhelmed.

Any places in Germany like Schloss Seehof that unexpectedly impressed you?

I was at Schloss Seehof near Bamberg today. Inside, the rooms are fully designed. Walls with floral paintings, birds, and patterns that stretch across large areas. Not just individual pictures, but entire walls, even in the corners and between the wooden paneling. In addition, the furniture, chandeliers, and ceilings. You look around and constantly discover new details. Individual pieces of furniture from the castle are now part of the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
